Level 6 BA (Hons) in Childhood Studies

This qualification is aimed at those who are intending to work in the field of childhood and youth services or education, or for those that work within these fields who would benefit from more classroom teaching than a Foundation Degrees.

Course Description

This three-year BA (Hons) Degree in Childhood Studies is validated by Sheffield Hallam University and taught at University Centre Stockport College and is aimed at those who are intending to work, in the field of childhood and youth services or education, or for those that work within these fields who would benefit from more classroom teaching than a Foundation Degrees.

If you are passionate about working with children and young people, enjoy working
in an educational setting and you are personable, flexible, creative and independent, then this is the perfect qualification and employment sector for you.

The qualification is full time. You will attend the University Centre two days a week and spend one day either in a placement or your workplace (if you already work in a relevant workplace).

Eligibility

  • Must have GCSE English Language at grade 4 or above, or grade C or above if awarded under the previous GCSE grading scheme, with aspirations of working in a setting that involves working with children and young people. 
  • Must be 18-year-old or older on or before the 31st August 2023. 
  • You MUST be a UK resident. 
  • You will need a GCSE Grade C in English or an equivalent (Functional Skills) and a Level 3 qualification in a related field (Childcare). However, learners are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants who are able to demonstrate relevant work/life skills or knowledge will also be considered on an individual basis. 

The course is run two days a week (Tuesday & Wednesday). This only runs from September to May, with campus holidays May to September.

You MUST be able to attend the University Centre Stockport College on these days.
