In December 2008, the Food Standards Agency established the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, which is currently operational in all areas of Wales, Northern Ireland, and 99% of England.
In practice, this rating system aims to ensure that businesses adhering to food laws and managing food safety risks effectively receive a rating of three or higher. However, substantial shortcomings in any of the scoring criteria can significantly impact the rating.
