Course Description

Full Qualification Name

NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Awareness Of Mental Health Problems

This qualification covers a range of mental illnesses that can commonly affect men, however, the content itself has been designed to allow you to support anyone that could be suffering from mental health problems.

As awareness of mental health issues grows, the need for more people to have an awareness of how to support individuals struggling with mental illness has become increasingly important. In particular, men’s mental health has been identified as an area of concern, as statistics show that men are less likely than women to seek help for mental health issues. This Mental Health qualification can equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide support to men in need.

Men's Mental Health Statistics

It is important to note the alarming statistics surrounding men's mental health. According to Havard Health Publishing, 10%-17% of men will develop major depression at some point in their lives. Men are also three times more likely to die by suicide than women, with suicide being the biggest cause of death in men under the age of 50 years old. Additionally, the stigma surrounding mental illness can prevent men from seeking help, with studies showing that men are less likely than women to talk about their mental health issues or seek professional help.

Mental Illness Meaning

Before diving into the details of a Men's Mental Health qualification, it's important to first define mental illness. Mental illness refers to a wide range of conditions that affect a person's mood, thinking, and behaviour. Mental illnesses can range from anxiety disorders and depression to bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. These conditions can significantly impact a person's daily life, and seeking professional help is often necessary to manage symptoms and improve overall well-being.

A Men's Mental Health qualification can provide individuals with the tools necessary to support men struggling with mental illness. This qualification typically involves coursework that covers the various types of mental illnesses, including depression, stress, anxiety and PTSD. You will also learn about their signs, symptoms and triggers.

The coursework of our Mental Health qualification may also enable you to effectively communicate with men who are struggling with mental health issues. This can include learning how to listen actively and empathetically, as well as understanding how to use appropriate language and avoid perpetuating stereotypes.

Individuals who complete a Level 2 Qualification in Mental Health Awareness can pursue a variety of career paths, including working as a Social Work Assistant, Mental Health Nurse or Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. They may also choose to work in other areas of the mental health field, such as research or advocacy.

It is important to note that a Men's Mental Health qualification is not just for men. Women, too, can benefit from this type of training, as it can provide a deeper understanding of the unique challenges that everyone faces when it comes to mental health. Additionally, mental health issues can impact not only the individual but also their families and communities, making it important for all individuals working in the mental health field to have a solid understanding of this area.
