Modern slavery encompasses the recruitment, movement, harbouring, or recieving of both adults and children. In the UK, it is estimated that there are over 130,000 victims of modern slavery, and this course will include various case studies for illustration.
This issue is diverse, covering forced labour, debt bondage, sexual exploitation, forced marriage, and criminal exploitation. You will learn about those most vulnerable to human trafficking, as well as the methods used for recruitment, control, and trafficking.
We will explore the victim's perspective, highlighting the subtle signs of modern slavery and identifying potential locations that could serve as bases for exploitation. Additionally, you will discover how to report instances of modern slavery and understand the role of the National Referral Mechanism.
We will also propose strategies the government could implement to combat modern slavery and delve into the provisions of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. The course will examine the responsibilities of small businesses in tackling this issue and offer practical advice, including how to make an anti-slavery pledge.
