End of life care is becoming increasingly prominent within the care sector as the UK population continues to age. The number of people aged over 64 in Britain is expected to rise from around 9.5 million to 15 million by 2040, leading to a growing demand for end of life care and related services. As more individuals reach later stages of life, care providers will play a vital role in ensuring people are supported with dignity, compassion and respect during their final months or years.
This course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and understanding needed to support individuals who require end of life care. It explores how to communicate sensitively and effectively, the approaches that should be taken when providing care, and how to respond appropriately to a wide range of needs. Learners will develop awareness of the psychological, social, spiritual, religious, cultural and emotional aspects of end of life care, helping them provide person-centred support that prioritises comfort, wellbeing and quality of life.
